Southern Africa Development Community - SADC

For UNDP, the overall relations with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) fall under the responsibility of the Regional Bureau for Africa in UNDP Headquarters.

Given that the SADC Secretariat is located in Gaborone, the Botswana Country Office plays a facilitating role for SADC-UNDP cooperation. UNDP Botswana takes part in an ongoing dialogue with the SADC Secretariat, both bilaterally as well as in the context of the SADC / ICP (International Cooperating Partner) Joint Task Force.

UNDP works with SADC in a number of areas, including:

• Water
• Environment & Biodiversity
• Peace Building
• HIV/AIDS
• Pharmaceuticals
• Gender
• Statistics

A Memorandum of Understanding between SADC and UNDP is currently being finalized, after which the two organizations will strive to work together in a more coherent and integrated way. Once this process is completed, more information will be available through this website.
