HIV/AIDS Programme: ProjectsHIV/Aids Programe
Nkaikela Youth Group (Tlokweng) Nkaikela - a Setswana word roughly translated as "I can go myself" - is a group of young ladies involved in HIV/AIDS education in order to ensure that young girls do not become vulnerable to the infection. The project is aimed at providing an alternative livelihood for the group as well as providing opportunities for young women to receive training and acquire skills to support themselves. South to South Corporation Teacher Capacity Building Programme The Teacher Capacity Building (TCB) Project is a South-to-South cooperation between Governments of Botswana and Brazil in HIV/AIDS prevention. The project aims at contributing to the achivement of behavioural change in teachers and students through improving on teacher's knowledge base, demystifying and destigmatising HIV/AIDS and breaking down cultural practices associated with sex and sexuality. The project targets all teachers in Botswana through use of interactive TV broadcasting and use of information and communication technology (i.e. Internet, e-mail, etc). A key component of this programme involves the development and implementation of an audio visual HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum in schools throughout Botswana and an interactive TV programme. The curriculum will focus on socio cultural and gender issues relevant to young people. This is in line with the Ministry of Education's sectorial change in learners and staff through Behavioural Change Communication strategies, and enhance understanding of sexual reproductive health issues, to prevent the further spread of HIV infection and reduce denial, stigma and secrecy surrounding HIV/AIDS.
