Refugee children in Dukwi Refugee Settlement

A most visible project embarked upon by the Government of Botswana and UNHCR is Dukwi Refugee Camp, around and within which other projects revolve.

Dukwi Refugee Camp covers an area of approximately 20 square kilometres located along the road 130km from Francistown to the Kazungula border. The Camp is home to about 3500 asylum-seekers and recognized refugees from sixteen nationalities, the majority of which come from Namibia, Angola, and Somalia.

The many ongoing projects in the Camp reflect a bold attempt and determination of the stakeholders to provide normal and meaningful life to refugees in Botswana. Included amongst these are the following:

  • Nursery School
  • Primary School
  • Secondary School
  • Healthcare Clinic
  • Modern Poultry
  • Brickmaking Centre, and
  • Dying and Styling Project
